United Planets' Alliance (UPA)

The United Planets' Alliance is a democratic group of several dozen star systems that share political, economical and military bonds. Each member of the UPA supplies two ambassadors to create the UPA Senate. The Senate is led by a UPA President who is elected for five years. The president can e re-elected once.

The United Planets were founded at the Treaty of Hedrec, signed by the three founding Prime Worlds Bricera, Cophuran.

Along with the senators the planetary delegations are completed by the commander of the respective planet's military/defense forces, if so available. These military commandants are responsible to a circle of three Supreme Commanders, the so-called Admirals' circle, who report directly to the UPA President. To order any military endeavors, however, the UPA President requires the approval of the senate. A positive vote of 67% is required to approve of the President's actions.

Jarris Vaylon, Overlord of Bricera and one of the founding members of the Alliance was elected first UPA president, shortly after the formal foundation. His term in office ended abruptly with his death in 2530, only a few weeks after his re-election. To the entire alliance's missfortune, his greatest competer during elections, Khetarian Senator Phlic Aelhoc used the chaos around Vaylon's death and the Dhilani crisis to catapult himself up to the UPA top and radically changed the legislature to his advantage, providing himself with monarch-like powers.

His reign lasted roughly 2 years until a split group of the United Planets, a renegade rebellion under the lead of Vince Trageton and former Briceran First Lady Shiromy Gitann brought him down.

In the following years the UPA had a hard time recovering from the past crisises, led by a rather inconsequent and in parts corrupt senate it slowly fell into decline, whereas its newly founded neighbour, Trageton's Empire of the Seven Suns flourished and thrived.

In the course of the Keeper war a major part of the United Planets' Military forces under the lead of Supreme Commander Ray Firkis decided to take actions against the seemingly ineffective and corrupt government and offered their allegiance to the Empire of the seven suns. In a swift but well planned coup d'Etat The government was toppled and with hardly any resistance the United Planets became part of Trageton's growing Empire.
