Mandalorian Federation (Neo-Mandalorians)
The Mandalorian Federation was formed in the wake of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. Mandalore had been under the control of the Zann Consortium. The invasion's weakening of Consortium influence and Tyber Zann's failure to name a true heir to the Consortium before he died allowed for the Mandalorian Revolution, which the Mandalorian Federation was a product of.
After Zann's death, his lieutenants divided the Consortium amongst themselves. Because of this, Boba Fett, his “son”, Jaster, and a few hundred men trained by Fett himself succeeded in rekindling the Mandalorian nationalistic spirit and taking control of the planet from the Consortium and the Mandalorian Tribal leaders bribed or intimidated into an alliance with the Consortium. A Consortium fleet was eventually sent to retaliate, but the revolution had increased a thousandfold in its numbers and support. The Consortium fleet was easily crushed. The Mandalorian Federation was officially established immediately afterwards. Although they never aknowledged Mandalore's independence, the Consortium left the Mandalorians alone.
The Federation originally consisted of the Mandalore system, and a few other neighboring systems that welcomed the reborn Mandalorians as liberators from Consortium oppression. This number would not grow substantially for quite some time. Despite this, the Neo-Mandalorians typically maintained one of the largest, most well-equipped and well trained militaries in the galaxy. Even those who were not actively involved in the military were more well-trained than many planetary defense forces. Every Mandalorian citizen was required to wear Mandalorian armor, be knowledgeable in weapons and their use and maintenance, and be a part of their homeworld's militia when necessary.
The Mandalorian Federation is a democracy with established legislative, executive and judicial branches that typically has liberal, even somewhat socialist ideals and usually chooses isolationist courses of action. The isolationist tradition was broken when, at the urging of the Mandalorian supreme commander at the time, Mikus Garr, the Federation allied itself with the Movement for Radical change (MRC), a leftist rebel movement seeking to fight the corruption and opposition that had mostly taken over the Core Alliance. The MRC was largely defeated and scattered. The Core Alliance labeled the Mandalorian Federation a security threat.
The Federation decided to strike first at the Core Alliance's headquarters, based on Kuat. The Mandos had the CA outnumbered two-to-one until a task force led by a mysterious Jedi divided the Mandalorian Fleet and all but completely destroyed it, forcing a Mandalorian retreat. No longer able to defend themselves as well and knowing that Core Alliance retaliation was inevitable, the Federation temporarily abandoned Mandalore and relocated its government and military to Kor'hekk.
Taking advantage of the confusion, High Commander Niko Malzic attempted to assassinate the acting supreme commander, D'Arman Karvic and High Commander Tev Omara. When this failed, he blamed Omara's death on Karvic, claiming he had made it seem like Omara had been trying to kill him but failed. Karvic resisted arrest and fled to whereabouts unknown and Malzic was unanimously elected supreme commander. A charismatic leader, Malzic used his influence and command of the Mandalorian Military to stage a successful coup and establish martial control. He declared the new government the Mandalorian Empire, with him as emperor, and prepared to retake Mandalore in his name. He was interrupted by Commander Xiana Fett's mutiny that had a good amount of ships escape to an unknown location and rebel. He now plans on crushing Fett's rebellion and envisions the galaxy under Mandalorian rule, while Fett aims to restore democracy.
